Elaine Chelton, piano

 

Biography

 

Elaine Chelton joined the New York City Ballet in 1990. Her solo repertory includes Other Dances, Sonatine, Duo Concertante, Tchaikovsky Piano Concerto No.2, Allegro Brillante, The Concert, Sonatas & Interludes, Who Cares and The Four Temperaments. She premiered In Creases, Organon, Musagete, Funerailles & The Blue of Distance. She has performed at the Kennedy Center, Russia, Japan, Hong Kong, Europe, Vail Dance Festival & with Stars of American Ballet. She was featured in a PBS Broadcast of NYC Ballet Live at the Chatalet Theatre in Paris and performed at the Joyce Theater with Peter Boal & Company. She has played for the Balanchine Foundation & recorded 2 C.D’s of ballet class music for Roper Records. She studied piano at Manhattan School of Music with Zenon Fishbein and at Queens College with Morey Ritt & Leon Pommers where she received her Bachelors of Music and Master of Arts degrees. Composition with Hugo Weisgall.

 

Credits as a musical theatre composer include Voice of the City & God’s Country, which was performed at the NYMF festival and her string quartet was premiered in Saratoga. She is a recipient of an Anna Sosenko Grant & a member of the Dramatists Guild.
