WHAT’S THE FREQUENCY?
Sunday, October 27, 3:00 pm
Purchase Performing Arts Center
Danail Rachev, conducting
George Antheil: Serenade
Mozart: Violin Concerto No. 5
Schubert: Symphony No. 5
It’s a half-step between Mozart’s A Major concerto (in the magnificent hands of Bella Hristova, making her third appearance with us) and Schubert’s B-flat Major Symphony. But if you were to ask American composer George Antheil during World War II about his music, he would not have provided an answer. This multi-disciplinary genius teamed up with actress (and multi-disciplinary genius) Heddy Lamar to develop an encoding system utilizing musical frequencies that could guide Allied torpedoes against Nazi u-boats. It became the foundation for how telecommunications work today. Danail Rachev returns to bestow his special conducting gifts upon all of it.
MY LIGHT, MY LOVE
Sunday, December 15, 3:00 PM
Purchase Performing Arts Center
Orli Shaham, piano soloist-leader
Poulenc: Sextet
Haydn: Piano Concerto No. 11
Schumann: Piano Quintet
“Orli” is Hebrew for “my light,” and Orli’s love of these intimately set works are a treat for the ears, heart, and mind. With members of the Westchester Philharmonic, Shaham will play and guide three centuries’ worth of masterpieces, illuminated by her singular passion and virtuosity.
CLASSICAL PARADISE
April 27, 3:00 pm
Purchase Performing Arts Center
Mozart: Overture to Cosi fan tutte
Mendelssohn: Violin Concerto
Beethoven: Symphony No. 4
If you missed Simone Porter with us in 2019, here’s your chance to hear this scintillating artist. Her impassioned energy, interpretive integrity, and vibrant communication bring a freshness to the well-known Mendelssohn, who’s favorite Beethoven symphony was…the fourth! Maestro Abdullah, making his third appearance with us since 2016, also brings his operatic bona fides to Mozart’s Cosi.
