Classroom Music Education Program
Stormy Weather
for Grades 3-6
Designed for elementary school students in grades 3-6, the Philharmonic's education program strives to integrate music into the academic classroom. Leading the program and the orchestra will be Wayne du Maine, a member of the Philharmonic trumpet section and one of the most sought-after classical, jazz, and pop artists in the metropolitan area. Mr. du Maine, who is also on faculty at Juilliard, Columbia, and Princeton, has created and led young people's concerts for many major orchestras and inspires the children with his dazzling presence and impeccable teaching and performance skills.
In this year's program, entitled "Stormy Weather", Mr. du Maine shows how composers use music to demonstrate weather. Also explored will be the instrument families and how the sounds instruments make can be used to create the noises we hear in the weather such as the wind or thunder and lightning. Study guides as well as visits from professional teaching artists will help teachers to weave the music and theme into everyday classroom lessons. Mr. du Maine, accompanied by the orchestra, will present the full concert as a culminating live musical experience. In this way, children across Westchester County are given opportunity to hear, see, and enjoy live music..
"Storym Weather" includes:
- Study Guide(pdf);
- Music excerpts that will be accessible via our website;
- an optional visit from one or more of our teaching artists;
- tickets to a live performance featuring the Westchester Philharmonic!
