Biography
Tomomi Nishimoto, the current Principal Guest Conductor with the State Symphony Orchestra of Russia (Svetlanov Symphony Orchestra), is a graduate of the Osaka College of Music with a Bachelor of Music Composition. Upon graduation, Nishimoto went abroad to the Saint Petersburg State Conservatory in Russia and pursued further study in opera and symphony conducting. She is a recipient of numerous awards and scholarships, including the Agency for Cultural Affairs of Japan's Internship in Arts and Music scholarship and the Idemitsu Music Award.
As a talented conductor, Nishimoto has held various appointments in her career. From 2004 to 2006, she served as the Principal Guest Conductor for the St. Petersburg Mussorgsky State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre. She has also served as the Chief Conductor and Artistic Director for the Russian Symphony Orchestra of the Tchaikovsky Foundation from 2004 to 2007. Other accomplishments of Nishimoto's during her time in Russia include a performance with the Moscow City Symphony Orchestra "Russian Philharmonic". All these posts are seldom granted to those of non-Russian background.
Nishimoto has been invited to numerous music festivals as well. These include: the Split Summer Festival, the Dubrovnik Summer Festival, the Prague Proms, and the Vilnius Music Festival.
In 2007, Nishimoto set her foot into Europe with a successful performance at the Bruckner Orchestra Linz concert held at Brucknerhaus in Austria. Capitalizing on her newly gained notoriety in Europe, she later performed with various European ensembles. These include: the Monte Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra, the Budapest Philharmonic Orchestra, the British Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the Romanian State Philharmonic Orchestra (George Enescu), the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra, and the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra.
In addition to her orchestral activities, Nishimoto is also a renowned opera conductor. Her work includes successful collaborations with the Hungarian State Opera House and the Prague State Opera.
Since then, she has also been working as a Young Global Leader for the World Economic Forum, which hosts annual meetings in Davos, Switzerland. Through her endeavors to serve as a leader, she has attracted attention from around the world.
In 2010, she concluded her successful first tour in the United States by conducting the American Symphony Orchestra at Carnegie Hall in New York City. This year, she is scheduled to be promoted to be the Executive Producer of the Olympus Hall Hachioji.
