
Roberta Cooper, Cello
Roberta Cooper, cellist, received her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees from the Juilliard School, where she was a scholarship student of Lorne Munroe and Harvey Shapiro. She was a prizewinner in The Artist International Competition, which sponsored her critically acclaimed solo debut in Carnegie Recital Hall. She has been a chamber music participant at many festivals and on prestigious series, including Aspen, Bard, Crested Butte, Divonne (France),Marrowstone, Montreal, Marlboro, Maverick Concerts, Mohawk Trail Concerts, St.Barts, Santa Fe, Kneisel Hall and Festival Casals in Puerto Rico. Ms. Cooper has performed chamber music on Lincoln Center’s Great Performers series and at The Smithsonian in Washington, DC.
Ms. Cooper is a member of the Walsh-Drucker-Cooper Trio, which was formed at the Skaneateles Festival. The trio has played on many prestigious series and has an upcoming tour of Denmark, as well as concerts in New Orleans, Wooster, Montpelier and New York City. Ms, Cooper was a founding member of The Wave Hill Trio, which had a residency at Wave Hill (the former Toscanini estate) for eight years, and toured internationally with them.
She has performed many times as a guest cellist with The Emerson String Quartet and will perform with them next summer in Bad Reichenhall, Germany. Ms. Cooper performs Baroque music regularly with harpsichordist Kenneth Cooper (no relation) as part of The Berkshire Bach Society and has made numerous recordings with them.
She can be heard as cello soloist on a recent CD of jazz standards with the famous pop singer Linda Ronstadt. In 2007 she performed in the cello section of the Berlin Philharmonic with conductor, Ivan Fischer, and has been reengaged for January 2009 under Zubin Mehta.
